An interactive immersive audio walk through the streets and culture of Brixton. Created by Brixton-based public arts company Aswarm, led by Artist Thor McIntyre-Burnie and produced by Border Crossings’ ORIGINS Festival, SONGSTREETS is a journey into the heart and fire of what empowers this unique place: from the Windrush, through the Rising, to the Future.
Created in response to Indigenous Australian musician Jessie Lloyd’s residency in Brixton, which explored commonalities of experience between Indigenous Australians & Black Britons, SONGSTREETS is narrated by Brixton-born artist Tony Cealy. Gathering a host of local voices, this performance-based response to space invites you to discover the people, sites and songs of Brixton, the pathways into hidden stories & cultural memories that are embedded in our streets.
Supported by Arts Council England & the UK/Australia Season
