More-than-human architecture workshop

25 June 2023

14:00 -16:00

How could we turn our gardens into places to hold our pollinators sacred? How could we weave special features for our more-than-human companions into our shared spaces? Join artist Becky Lyon for an afternoon creating designs for birds, bees, beetles and butterflies! We’ll use clay to ‘sketch’ our ideas and create palm-sized sculptures to take home. The workshop will take place in Whetstone Stray Allotments, a tranquil hidden gem formerly a part of Finchley Commons.

Becky has created a series of experimental sculptures designed as ‘offerings’ for the more-than-human companions we share our common spaces with. The ceramic artworks have been placed in community-led growing spaces across the borough of Barnet: Colindale Community Garden, Barnwood N2, Finchley Central Energy Garden, Incredible Edible @ St. John’s United Reformed Church and Whetstone Stray Allotments. Seek out the sculptures as you explore the London Festival of Architecture programme (maps of the sculpture locations will be available in hubs).

Becky is a practising artist living and working in Colindale. She is volunteer London National Park City Ranger for Barnet and is Grounder of Ground Provisions, an artist-led, schooled-by-the-forest for grown-ups.
