- The LFA and Japan House London are delighted to announce that they are working collaboratively on an events programme to accompany Japan House London’s upcoming ‘Architecture for Dogs’ exhibition, which will be making its European debut at Japan House London from Saturday 19 September 2020.
- Showcasing the relationship between people and their dogs, the exhibition ties into the Festival’s 2020 theme of ‘power’ by demonstrating the power of architecture in making a positive impact on our canine companions, through specially designed architectural pieces.
Running until January 2021, the free exhibition will offer both a physical experience and later on a virtual one, and form part of the London Festival of Architecture’s ongoing legacy programme, which will build upon the digital programme from June and see a series of new interventions revealed across London’s public realm this autumn.
Featuring 16 architectural designs for different dog breeds, each created by world-class architects and designers, ‘Architecture for Dogs’ will include an exhibition at Japan House London’s Kensington High Street venue with the addition of a brand new piece by eminent UK architect, Asif Khan, as well as a series of online talks and a travelling roadshow for smaller dogs to interact with. ‘Architecture For Dogs’ brings a taste of Japanese architecture and culture to London’s vibrant architectural scene – as well as the Festival’s huge public audience, many of whom encounter architecture for the very first time through the LFA. Informative, inspiring and entertaining, ‘Architecture For Dogs’ shows that architecture really can be for everyone – and every dog.
Collaborative work on linking this exhibition with the London architecture scene is part of an ongoing partnership between the LFA and Japan House London, and an important element of the LFA’s mission to celebrate London as the world’s global architectural hub. Past collaborations including the ‘Futures of Future’ exhibition by Sou Fujimoto – who is amongst the world-class architects who has created a dog house for ‘Architecture for Dogs’ – which saw an insightful talk and exhibition launch take place during the Festival in June 2018.
