A place to call home is a fundamental human need, yet not something we all have in common.
With housing need outweighing supply, vast numbers of people are in urgent need of shelter and designing dignified, supportive and community-orientated accommodation is more important than ever.
This year’s Davidson Prize asked teams to propose a design solution for a home community for people who have experienced homelessness and housing insecurity. Proposals also had to include a common space intended to promote interaction and foster community.
Recurrent themes included approaches to group-build housing, the re-use of high streets, and joined-up opportunities for work, meaningful occupation, and social engagement - all of which were underpinned by an unwavering determination to find more humane solutions to the housing crisis.
The winner of the 2023 Prize will be announced during a live ceremony at Istituto Marangoni alongside a showcase of the longlist and finalist entries.
