Heritage Roundtable: Legacies of Colonialism in our Public Realm

15 June 2023

18:30 -20:00

The Brixton Project has been commissioned by Guy’s and St. Thomas’ Foundation to deliver community wide engagement around the re-interpretation of the statues of Thomas Guy and Robert Clayton. The process of re-interpreting the statues is on-going.

The engagement journey presents the opportunity for communities in Lambeth and Southwark, hospital users and staff to influence the reinterpretation work around the statues of Guy and Clayton whilst positioning the Foundation’s wider art collection as a transformative community resource fostering open and expansive dialogue around the continued legacy of the transatlantic slave trade in our public realm and systems of health inequality disproportionately impacting Black communities across the UK.

As part of London Festival of Architecture, The Brixton Project is hosting a Heritage Roundtable examining legacies of Colonialism in our public realm with leaders in the discourse.

The panel will be hosted by The Brixton Project and will feature panellists including Rob Bevan, author or Monumental Lies, Dr. Corinne Fowler, Dr. Nathaniel Tobias Coleman and Raj Chada, Barrister for the Colston 4.
