A walk round Whitechapel – Outsiders, Immigrants and integration in the City of London

28 June 2023

14:00 -16:00

We look at shared spaces which have been common to the communities of the area of Whitechapel. Houses of worship used by multiple denominations. Markets which acts as forums for many groups. And soup kitchens and houses from multiple centuries serving people with a very wide set of narratives. We look at massive Warehouses which fuelled economy which are now repurposed as restaurants and a communal open space.

We walking through the location of a Roman gate, Medieval Church, sculptures, Synagogues Ashkenazi, Sephardi and Dutch. Brick Lane Mosque. Monasteries, Basketball heroes, Entertainers, Painters and street markets. From Chaucer, to the Huguenot, Irish, Jewish and Sylhet migrants through to socialists, revolutionaries and the East India Company . This walk covers all this and more. I hope you can come and contribute to the story.
